Advice first
There is no legitimate market where someone sells CVV data at a low price. Trafficking in card verification values is a federal offense in the United States, and every listing you encounter is one of three things: a law enforcement operation, a scam that collects your payment and vanishes, or a seller who resells the same stolen card to dozens of buyers before the issuing bank closes it. The buyer loses the money, and the buyer also becomes a defendant. If your goal is cheaper online checkout, the answer is store credit, gift cards, promo codes, or a card product with cash back. If your goal is protecting the card you already have, the steps below cover that.

What to do when a cheap CVV offer reaches you
- Do not reply, and do not send payment in any form. Crypto, gift cards, and peer to peer transfers are the payment methods these sellers demand because they cannot be reversed.
- Capture the message, the handle, and the payment address without clicking any attachment or link inside it.
- Report the offer to the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center at ic3.gov and to the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov.
- If you already handed over your own card details, call the number on the back of your card and ask the issuer to block the card and reissue it.
- Place a freeze on your credit files with Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion if you gave out a Social Security number along with the card data.
Parameters to check on your own card
- CVV handling: a merchant that asks you to read the code over the phone or type it into a chat window is outside normal card processing. Reputable checkout pages collect it inside a secure form.
- Address verification: turn on AVS checks with your issuer so a charge with a mismatched billing address gets declined.
- Transaction alerts: set a push or text alert for every charge above a low threshold. Card testing schemes run many small charges before one large one.
- Virtual card numbers: many issuers generate single merchant card numbers with a unique code that expires after use, which blocks reuse if a merchant is breached.
- 3D Secure: enrollment adds a bank side verification step at checkout and shifts fraud liability away from you.
Pitfalls
- Prices far below market are the tell. Real stolen card data trades at high prices because supply is limited and short lived.
- Free sample lists are used to test whether you will engage, and the data in them is usually expired.
- Escrow and review claims from these sellers are fabricated, since no payment processor will service the transaction.
- Federal sentencing guidelines treat card trafficking as aggravated identity theft when the data is used, which adds a mandatory consecutive term.
Federal law limits your liability for unauthorized charges on a consumer card, so the correct move after any exposure is a fast call to the issuer, not a search for replacement data.
