None of that is a market. Buying or selling stolen card data is a federal crime in the United States, and the storefronts that claim to offer it run one of three plays: take your crypto and vanish, resell you the same dead card, or log your IP for someone else to use later. Two different things people mean by "buying CVV"

The phrase gets used for two unrelated activities. One is buying stolen card data, which I just described. Red flags on any site selling card data

  • Crypto-only payment with no dispute path.
  • Screenshots of "balance checkers" offered as proof of validity.
  • Escrow run by the same person selling the goods.
  • Pressure to move the conversation to Telegram or Discord.
  • Prices that are too low for the supposed card limit.

What to buy instead: virtual cards and tokenized checkout

A virtual card is a separate number tied to your real account. You set a spend limit, sometimes lock it to a single merchant, and the CVV is different from your physical card's. If the merchant gets breached, the number is worthless to the attacker. Most major US issuers and several fintechs offer these, often at no cost.

Network tokens go a step further. The card network swaps your account number for a token that only works in a specific context, so the merchant never stores the real PAN. You do not buy tokenization directly. You get it by using wallets and merchants that support it.

Parameters that matter when you compare providers

  • Single-use vs merchant-locked: a merchant-locked card survives for subscriptions, a single-use one dies after one charge.
  • Does the CVV rotate? Rotating codes limit the damage from a leaked checkout page.
  • Spend caps and expiration dates you control.
  • Fee structure: per-card fees add up fast if you shop often.
  • Whether card creation is instant or takes a day.
  • Dispute support. A virtual card still has to give you chargeback rights.

Pitfalls

The biggest one is assuming a virtual card makes you anonymous. It does not. It limits exposure, and your bank still sees every transaction. The second is buying a "CVV shield" browser extension from an unknown developer. That extension can read every field on every checkout page you visit. The third is ignoring recurring billing. A merchant-locked card with a generous cap will happily renew a subscription you forgot about.
